Hey Anna Background Info
“Hey Anna, a blossoming New York-area based band, brings you the salty shores of the Coasts and the fast-paced excitement of the city. The band came to life when 3 sisters–who’ve been making music together since since before they could eat solid food–met up with two long-time best friends in an overheated 8 by 8 practice room in Newark, NJ.
The result: a mixture of intimate vocal harmonies perched atop poppy melodies that meet soaring, atmospheric alt rock.” (via Facebook)
MarsBands Review
The first thing that popped into my head when I first heard Hey Anna was Veronica Falls on anti-depressants. If you’ve every heard Veronica Falls, you understand that little “funny” I just made. But in all seriousness, that’s a rather excellent way to quickly give someone an idea on what to expect from Hey Anna. They have the brilliant vocals, harmony, and amazing melodies that Veronica Falls has, only Hey Anna is much, much happier and upbeat. Does that make them better? You decide!
Hey Anna is a group of musicians who love making music and are so talented at doing so, they switch it up every now and then so everyone gets a shot at showcasing their supreme talents. Their self-titled EP, released in September, is full of harmonious melodies that are intricately crafted and precisely performed. The EP is a collection of all-encompassing, atmospheric music that will light up all your senses at the same time.
What do I mean by atmospheric? It’s as if each song creates its own little world full of sparkling sounds that seem to resonate from every corner - Infectiously catchy music that surrounds you. Like a blanket of soothing sounds, Hey Anna’s EP will lift you from whatever world you find yourself in and gently place you into their world of creativity and passion.
My favorite song off their EP was Once Again. It is upbeat, quick, and has fantastic harmony. You know me, I’m a sucker for harmony. Switching from a building verse to a quick paced chorus, the song will certainly get your heart pumping and make your ears happy. It made my ears happy! Give Hey Anna a healthy listen, and perhaps even a download (it’s free!) via Bandcamp below. And as always, enjoy!
