If you’re a fan of passionate, intelligent lyrics and a brilliantly sweet and soft voice then Emily Alyssa is going to be perfect for you. Just a girl and her guitar, Emily turns simplicity into highly emotional and intricately worded poetic masterpieces. Remember when Jewel was cool (think “Pieces of You” album)? Remember how her songs were awesome because she was honest and passionate and sincere? Well that’s precisely what you’ll get from Emily Alyssa.
Emily Alyssa’s music takes some of my favorite things and showcases her mastery of them, such as harmony. It’s usually pretty subtle, just some simple backing sounds, but it’s perfectly done for each song. It doesn’t distract from the main attraction - the honest and passionate lyrics, one of my other favorite things. Now if you’ve read some of my reviews before you’ll know that I tend to have a tough time actually understanding lyrics. My ears don’t work they way most people’s ears do. Often times vocals just become part of the music and I couldn’t repeat a lyric to save my life. But with Emily’s music, I couldn’t help but hear every elegant lyric.
Emily’s passion may be music, but she may just be a poet and doesn’t know it (see what I did there?). Similar to Charlotte Eriksson, Emily Alyssa has an uncanny way with words. She has a way of taking even the simplest of things and putting them into words that simply boggle my mind. I’m always impressed how songwriters’ brains work, but when I stumble across people like Emily who really take it up a notch, it is a treat that I absolutely must share with you.
