Pirate Signal Background Info

“Pirate Signal redefine the concept of Alternative Rock. Clever chordal statements mixed with educated lyrics create an assortment of flavors, making an inventive and rewarding treat for your ears. Pirate Signal are on the cutting edge of the moody masterpieces of rock that has been introduced by ground breakers such as Radiohead, Nirvana and Deftones.” (via Reverbnation Profile)

MarsBands Review

Influenced largely by a vast range of 90s Rock bands, Pirate Signal takes some of the best parts of bands like Deftones and Radiohead and combines them with something like Nirvana and The White Stripes to create a sound which on paper you might think would be a disaster. For example, Pirate Signal’s song Medicated is a mix of Deftones and Radiohead. And again, that might not exactly sound like a match made in heaven, but apparently these guys have a pretty advanced creative vision, because mixing Deftones and Radiohead sounding music is brilliant! Medicated is a fantastic song.

And while Pirate Signal’s music does sound strangely familiar, due in large part to their resemblance to other bands’ sound, some of their songs strike a deeper feeling, as if I’ve not only heard the song before, but somehow I know this song, these people, and this band. And that is a wonderful clue that you have just stumbled onto a great band.

Another product of the St. Louis music scene, Pirate Signal’s sound is as diverse as the range of music you’ll find in this part of the country. There’s nothing definite about the sound of this band. They will come at you from many different musical angles. I like to think of this band as having 3 gears: Classic Rock, Rock, and Hard Rock. Pirate Signal’s song River Run satisfies the Classic Rock part, as they give off kind of a Doors type feeling, only slightly edgier.

EctoSpectical is kind of a Rock and Hard Rock mix, where the song maintains a rather slow pace through its entirety. It then shifts into The White Stripes gear for a bit, but then with the bass and drums thumping and snaring away, there is certainly a heavier, almost Alice in Chains/STP type vibe going on that is something that I find fascinating. If you are in the mood for good, dynamic music, check out Pirate Signal below. If you aren’t in the mood for good music, what the hell are you doing on this site?
