MarsBands Review
The Black Lips make some pretty awesome music. Some of their songs, like Veni Vidi Vici, sound like 70s Psychedelic Rock. Other songs, like New Direction, are very Punk sounding. If you listen closely, a 50s “doo-wop” sound can be heard that is brilliantly mixed with their own version of Punk.
The Punk sound that The Black Lips have isn’t quite the same as you might hear from a Punk band like Screeching Weasel. The Black Lips’ Punk sound is more of a mix of sounds from the 50s and 70s. They tend to have that Classic Rock sound while reaching back even further with the 50s style Pop, which is then mixed with Punk, Rock, and perhaps even a smidgen of Country (see/hear, How Do You Tell A Kid That Someone Has Died) to make the unique sounds of The Black Lips.
MarsBands.com is thrilled to have found this amazing band, albeit 12 years after they formed. It’s better late than never, right? We suggest you check them out, as they have a lot of different sounds to offer and we’re certain you’ll like at least one of them.
