Even though this site has only been officially operating about two weeks, we have received a fair amount of direct feedback from visitors, readers, bands, and even some managers. Unfortunately, the recurring theme among visitors’ direct messages to us is their disapproval of how we neglect to mention the sexual preferences of some of the bands and artists we have listed - as if we are implementing some form of “don’t ask don’t tell” policy. I thought I would take this opportunity to clarify MarsBands’ position on this matter.
I’m not going to get too carried away with this, but I just wanted to point out that whether or not someone is gay or straight has absolutely no bearing on what their music sounds like or how good it is. Nor do I find it even remotely relevant. In fact, we intentionally don’t put that kind of information into a review because we know there are some people in this world who would completely turn away from good music simply because the artist or members of the band aren’t hetero enough. It’s a sad reality.
So, in summary, yes, I know that we are not providing all the information that some may find pertinent. Our hope is that one day someone who doesn’t agree with homosexuality finds that even gay people make awesome music, and in some small way, MarsBands can help promote great music and make society a little more understanding.
