The Rundown: Nukeateen [pronounced Nuke-a-teen] is an Alternative Rock/Grunge band from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, U.K., that started in 1992 and ended in 1999. In 2008 the band reformed and continues to produce music. Composed of Taz Cebula, Nick Llife (who joined the band in 1996), and Jon Cebula, Nukeateen takes you back to those wonderful days when music was new, exciting - the 90s.
Nukeateen’s sound in heavily Grunge, with some Rock thrown in for good measure. Some good songs to check out by the band are “Bitter Wine“, “Drive” and “Greebo“. “Greebo” is a great 90s song that really reminds you of how awesome the music of that era was. But I have my issues with “Bitter Wine“. There’s no debating that it’s a good song, hell, I might even go as far as to say it’s a great song.
The first time I listened to it, I immediately wondered if I had somehow heard of this band before and not realized it, because the song sounded so familiar. About 30 seconds in I figured it out. That song is a total rip-off of Nirvana’s “Token Eastern Song“. And when I say total rip-off, I mean all they did was change the lyrics. The music, the beat - Nirvana’s. This is grand larceny at it’s worst. I can see wanting to sound like one of the greatest bands of the 90s, but to go as far as to steal the song and change the lyrics around… that’s low.
So aside from that, the band is pretty cool. Their sound is typical 90s, which is also pretty cool. While MarsBands.com does not condone stealing a great band’s song to make their own song, we do approve of Nukeateen’s other songs.
