The Rundown: Yet another great Canadian band, Mother Mother is is made up of Ryan Guldemond, his sister, Molly Guldemond, Ali Siadat, Jeremy Page, and Jasmin Parkin. Formed in 2005, Mother Mother has released three albums: “Touch Up” (2007), “O My Heart” (2008), and “Eureka” (2011). Their song “Baby Don’t Dance” peaked at #12 on the Canadian Alternative Music Charts in 2011.
In 2005 the band released an independent, self-titled album recorded by Howard Redekopp (who had also worked with Tegan and Sara). Shortly after that album’s debut, people began to take notice of Mother Mother. A year later the Vancouver Province rated Mother Mother in the top 5 bands to watch for in 2007. That’s when things really started taking off for the band, as they landed their first nationally broadcasted concert opening for K’naan and The Wailin’ Jennys. They then went on to open for The Cat Empire at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, which helped them land a performance at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. In 2006 Mother Mother signed a four album contract with Las Gang Records (Metric used the same label for their first studio album).
Mother Mother is a mix of Punk, Rock, and perhaps, at times, even a little Poppy (though, you’ll never hear anyone say Mother Mother is a Pop band). Some good songs you’ll want to check out by them are “The Stand” (my personal favorite), “O My Heart“, and “Chasing it Down“. All of which are excellent songs. MarsBands.com urges you to listen and enjoy.
