The Rundown: From Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia, Canada, Hot Hot Heat got started in 1999 and has released four albums which include “Make Up the Breakdown” (2002), “Elevator” (2005), “Happiness Ltd.” (2007), and “Future Breeds” (2010). Consisting of Steve Bays, Paul Hawley, Luke Paquin, and Louis Hearn, Hot Hot Heat has transformed from a Synth-Punk sound to a more Pop-Rock sound after the original lead singer, Matthew Marnik, left.
In 2003 the song “Bandages” from the album “Make Up the Breakdown“, reached #19 on the U.S. Alternative Songs Charts (formerly Modern Rock tracks) and #25 on the U.K. Singles Chart. Some other good songs by Hot Hot Heat include “Talk to Me, Dance with Me“, “Goodnight, Goodnight“, and “Harmonicas and Tambourines“. Hot Hot Heat has a nice Pop-Rock-Synth blend going on with their music, which makes their sound fairly unique.
My favorite song from this band is “Goodnight Goodnight” because it’s a blend of Rock, Synth, and even a little Ska at times. It a quick paced song, with an out-of-the-ordinary drum beat. It’s not like the drum beat has never been used before, but it is a nice break from the monotony of your standard beat. Steve Bays has a fairly unique voice as well, making the song and Hot Hot Heat stand out from the rest of its peers. The video is pretty cool too. MarsBands.com is a fan of Canadian bands, especially the good ones. Which is why we think you should check out Hot Hot Heat.
